BrightCom Telepresence Relieves Pressure at the Pumps
With Earth Day approaching, BrightCom CEO feels that in light of increase in fuel prices, businesses are adopting telepresence and video conferencing strategies and spending less at the gas pump.
Orange County, CA – April 19, 2011 – Around the world, motorists and travelers are feeling the effects of increasing gasoline and fuel prices. Because of this, people and businesses are finding alternative methods including telecommuting, telepresence and video conferencing to accomplish their daily work.
According to the US Energy Information Administration, US gasoline prices have increased 10% in the last month and 90% from last year. Major US cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago have all reached prices of $4.00 plus per gallon and some forecasters are predicting record breaking prices of $5.00 per gallon by Memorial Day weekend.
However in an interesting twist, the Associated Press reported that while gas prices are rising, Americans have purchased less gasoline in the last five weeks than they did in April-May of 2010. And with two hundred ten thousand new jobs added in March, many analysts believed that spending would increase as more people drove to work.
According to Bob McCandless, CEO of BrightCom, a premier telepresence and video conferencing manufacturer, one reason why sales are falling for at gas stations in the midst of increasing prices is due to the rate of enterprises becoming aware and adopting telecommuting solutions including telepresence and video conferencing to help minimize executive and employee travel.
“More businesses are seeing a greater value from their telepresence systems than they were a year ago,” stated Mr. McCandless. “While they understand how their executives and employees can connect from home or any other public space from mobile devices, they are also seeing huge benefits when it comes to ensuring a competitive edge and improving productivity.”
BrightCom’s telepresence and video conferencing combines immersive HD, face to face, video communication with the ability to share and cooperatively markup documents, images and video clips. New features were recently added to the software based conferencing system including support for all international languages in documents or other data shared and edited during a conference without additional software.
As Earth Day quickly approaches, Mr. McCandless feels that telepresence will once again be high on the list of strategies that businesses can use to become environmentally friendly and continue to reduce the need for traveling.
“As the world celebrates Earth Day this coming Friday, it will be a great reminder of the impact that people have on natural resources and how businesses can continue to improve their operations. I feel that as networks continue to improve and costs are reduced, telepresence will increasingly be a major part of these improvements,” states Mr. McCandless.
